Per the Educational Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR), the district shall assure that annually each student and employee is given information regarding the Drug Free Schools and Communities ActÌý (DFSCA).
Standards of Conduct
The Ãå±±½ûµØ District is committed to preventing the unlawful possession, use, and distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by all students and employees on school premises or as part of any activities. As an institution of higher learning, Ãå±±½ûµØ vision is committed to equity and social justice and will be the model for innovative community colleges through exceptional student experiences that drive success, promote civic engagement, and meet community needs. In partnership with the community, we are dedicated to providing opportunities for student learning and success through academic advancement, workforce development, and personal growth. The objective of our Caring Campus Initiative will assist the college in efforts to encourage greater enrollment and participation from the local community, improve the image of the college, and achieve the goals of the Vision for Success. We have a responsibility to prevent the use of alcohol and other drugs by employees and students.ÌýDefining, legal sanctions and health risks, along with recognizing drug and alcohol abuse will support our caring campus initiative by providing resources for prevention and treatment.Ìý

The illegal use, transportation, or distribution of drugs or alcohol related offenses may result in misdemeanor or felony convictions, probation, county jail time, state prison time, or federal prison time. Health Risk
Some health risks associated with use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol include:ÌýÌý
- Impaired performance including drowsiness, impaired memory, and imparted concentrationÌý
- Risk of addiction and withdrawal symptoms including pain, convulsions and depressionÌý
- Impaired judgment and resulting safety and health risks including accidentsÌý
- Liver, heart, kidney, pancreas, and brain damage and/or loss of brain cellsÌý
- Lung damage or illnesses, bronchitis, or respiratory arrestÌýÌý
- Needle-related illnesses and complications such as hepatitis, HIV, muscle and nervous tissue death necessitating limb amputation, and infectionsÌý
- Unwanted pregnancies, unprotected sex and possible sexually transmitted diseases, and aggressive or violent behavior
- Increased risk of suicide
- Death including by alcohol poisoning or drug overdose

II. EmployeesÌýÌý
Employee wellness, health, well-being and performance matters to the Ãå±±½ûµØ Community College District.ÌýA serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her job may be entitled to Family and Medical Leave under FMLA. Multiple resources are offered by Ãå±±½ûµØ for Drug Abuse and Prevention such as the Employment Assistance Program (EAP)also known as Health Advocate, or if you elected into a Medical Benefit Plan your Health Care Provider may offer varying methods of treatment.Ìý

ÌýDisciplinary ProceduresÌý
Ìý1. StudentsÌý
- Any student found to have committed the following misconduct is subject to disciplinary sanctions. The Discipline ProceduresÌý can be found online on the Campus Police website atÌý/student-discipline. Normally, any student found guilty of misconduct will be suspended from the College for at least one semester.Ìý
- The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession or use of illegal drugs on the college campus or off campus at any college-sponsored event, is prohibited. ÌýNo one may use or abuse legal or illegal substances, including alcohol, in a manner which impairs performance of assigned tasks. ÌýThe Campus Police Department strictly enforces Federal and State laws, as well as the college’s zero-tolerance policy of the use and sale of illegal drugs. Violators are subject to discipline and criminal prosecution. ÌýStudents engaging in the sale of illegal drugs will be expelled. ÌýStudents found in violation of the College’s alcohol, drug and weapons policy may be subject to academic probation, suspension or expulsion.
2. Employees
As a condition of employment, employees must agree not to engage in the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance during the period of covered employment.ÌýDisciplinary procedures are outlined in Collective Bargaining Agreements housed by Human Resources.Ìý
